Saudi Arabia (SAGC) — ride-through requirements
The LVRT, HVRT, FRT envelopes a grid-scale battery must meet under Saudi Arabia (SAGC), digitized breakpoint by breakpoint and checked against the clause it came from.
Applies to: transmission connections — Renewable generating units on the SA transmission network.
Part of: the grid-code ride-through chart — compare this against 65 other standards in 44 countries.
What this is, and is not. A reading aid compiled from the clause cited below — not a compliance document. The primary text governs. Every value here was read from a current primary source.
Breakpoints
Times are seconds from the start of the disturbance. Voltage is per-unit of nominal; frequency in hertz. An LVRT curve is a lower boundary (stay connected while voltage is on or above it), an HVRT curve an upper boundary, and FRT gives the band between its High and Low boundaries. These are the boundaries, not the behaviour: what holding one demands of the converter — reactive current injection, thermal stress, protection timing — is stepped through in the LVRT / HVRT ride-through visual.
| Event | Duty | Breakpoints | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| low-voltage ride-through (LVRT) | ride-through | 0.001s → 0 pu; 0.3s → 0 pu; ↗ 1.3s → 0.8 pu; 1.301s → 0.9 pu; 1800s → 0.9 pu; 1800.001s → 0.95 pu | verified |
| high-voltage ride-through (HVRT) | ride-through | 0.001s → 1.2 pu; 1s → 1.2 pu; 1.001s → 1.1 pu | verified |
| frequency ride-through (FRT) | ride-through | High: 0.1s → 62.5 Hz; 30s → 62.5 Hz; 30.001s → 61.5 Hz; 1800s → 61.5 Hz; 1800.001s → 60.5 Hz | Low: 0.1s → 57 Hz; 30s → 57 Hz; 30.001s → 57.5 Hz; 1800s → 57.5 Hz; 1800.001s → 58.8 Hz | verified |
Where these values come from
- LVRTSaudi Arabian Grid Code, Updated Version February 2022, Chapter 2 (Connection Code), clause 2.5.5.23(b)(ii) and Figure 2.5 'Voltage Withstand Capability Diagram' (p.34); continuous/30-min band from clause 2.4.3. The code defines a linear recovery ramp; the vertices are read from the clause and the chart draws the segment between them.
- HVRTThe Saudi Arabian Grid Code, 2nd Electronic Update Oct 2016, clause 2.5.5.21: 'The Renewable Resource Generating Unit shall remain connected to the Network and continue stable operation if none of the phases exceeds 120% of nominal voltage for more than 1s'; clause 2.5.5.20(b)(ii) upper-side wording and Figure 2.3; steady-state ceiling per 2.4.3 = 1.1 pu.

How Saudi Arabia compares
Each event this code defines, put side by side with every other code that defines it:
- Low-voltage ride-through (LVRT) across 52 codesWhere Saudi Arabia (SAGC) sits against every other published LVRT envelope.
- High-voltage ride-through (HVRT) across 33 codesWhere Saudi Arabia (SAGC) sits against every other published HVRT envelope.
- Frequency ride-through (FRT) across 45 codesWhere Saudi Arabia (SAGC) sits against every other published FRT envelope.
